The excursion is an unmissable opportunity to admire the extraordinary variety of wild flowers that populate the Sibillini Mountains.
A ring route of about 9 km that allows us to see incredible scenery, almost always away from traffic (you will always walk on tracks and paths), passing through fountains, uncultivated meadows and the great karst depression of Piangrande (the Fosso dei Mergani), and then returning to cars through the woods.
Ring hike in Castelluccio di Norcia: E13 Trail, Fosso dei Mergani and blooms
The excursion I propose will take you to discover some of the most evocative landscapes of the Sibillini Mountains National Park, immersing yourself in the unspoiled beauty of nature and giving you unforgettable emotions.
Easy Sibillini Trails: it’s easy and safe with driving!
Explore the unspoiled beauty of Castelluccio with this circular excursion of about 9 km, perfect for nature lovers and trekking enthusiasts. The route, with a difference in height of 400 meters, begins and ends near the pass that separates the Valley of Santa Scolastica from the plateau of Castelluccio di Norcia, a magical place made famous by its plain and evocative atmosphere.
Important:
- At this time of year (end of March, April and May), the flowering is of spontaneous plants that are different from the flowering of lentil fields, which is not yet present (it is usually sown in April). Precisely for this reason, you can enjoy spectacular spontaneous blooms along the paths and breathtaking, different and special views. Look at the photos on this page.
- The excursion has some (little) challenging sections and, especially for the length, is not recommended for children under 12 years old.

During the walk, you will cross several paths, including the Grande Anello dei Sibillini (GAS) which, in this section, coincides with the Sentiero Italia. In addition, you will walk a part of the E13 path, one of the most fascinating of the Sibillini Mountains, famous for the variety of flowers that bloom in spring.
Get ready to immerse yourself in an enchanting landscape, where nature awakens after the long winter, giving unique emotions at every step.

What to bring on an excursion
Safety must be our greatest concern and, although in summer there are situations with a lower risk than in winter, we cannot underestimate the mountain environment. Let’s find out together what to bring to the mountains during a summer excursion (both day and night):
- ESSENTIAL ANKLE-HIGH TREKKING SHOES (for mountain excursions and especially for winter excursions)
- a personal water supply of at least 1 litre
- snacks to eat during breaks (dried fruit is perfect)
- spare shirt, spare trekking socks
- trekking poles (some are available for the activities I organize but it is best to book them during the preliminary contact phase)
- sunglasses, hat and neck band
- for excursions above 1500 m above sea level and for all night excursions, also bring gloves, a neck warmer and a bright torch
I also reiterate that you must wear:
- ankle-high shoes;
- technical shirt in contact with the skin, long-sleeved top shirt and windbreaker. If you go on a night excursion, also bring a sweatshirt;
